Sailing Region of Fethiye
Welcome to Fethiye - Frankonia-Yachtcharter's second base
Fethiye lies in the south eastern corner of the gulf of Fethiye. Transfer time from Bodrum airport is about 2.5 hours, and about 3 hours from Izmir or Antalya airports. Our oneway base is the ECE-Saray Marina, about 10 minutes by foot to the town centre. The marina was completed in 2003 and offers all the supplies you need. There's a supermarket and a restaurant within the marina itself. There's also a yacht shop and a laundrette in the narrow lane behind the reception.
The town was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1956, but there are still plenty of beautiful old buildings in the bazaar. Here you'll also find an old Hamam (Turkish bath). At the fish market you can buy all sorts of fish and shellfish at good prices. You can then take them to the surrounding restaurants to be prepared for you at a small cost.
Fethiye is an ideal base from which to explore nearby points of interest by car. Here are just a few of them:
- Ölüdeniz, the most photographed bay in Turkey
- Saklikent, a 12km long gorge
- Tlos, one-time Byzantine Archbishop's seat
- Xanthos, once a Lycian capital city
- Kayaköy, a ghost town
Fethiye offers ample opportunity for diving fans. There's also hang-gliding or paragliding from the 2000m high Baba Dagi. But you shouldn't miss a visit to The Tomb of Amyntas for a stunning view of the bay and its surroundings.
